FAQ
Is there anywhere that I am NOT allowed to drive the RV rental?
Our vehicles are allowed on paved roads only. Some campsite properties have a gravel access to your campsite, and this is acceptable to drive on as long as the speed is less than 5 MPH and is less than 1000 feet to your campsite. No driving on dirt roads allowed. Please remember you are responsible for the tires on the vehicle should something happen. Trips into Mexico or Canada are not permitted. Also travel through extreme desert areas such as Death Valley during hot periods is prohibited. Travel in Death Valley is not permitted from June 1st until September 30th. Ground temperatures may reach 140 degrees Fahrenheit or 60 degrees Celsius. Traveling on any private, gravel, dirt, fire or logging road and other non-public roads, beaches, etc. is not permitted. If you have specific questions please contact us.
How old do I have to be to rent a RV?
You have to be 25 years of age or older with a valid drivers license and proper insurance.
How long does it take to show me everything?
This can take anywhere from 60 minutes to 120 minutes depending on if you have already rented a motorhome or are familiar with them. Please pre-read all the legal documents.
Does the RV rental come with a full diesel tank, full propane tank, full fresh water tank, and empty black and grey water tanks?
Yes, our RVs are given to you in ready to rent condition, with all fluid levels topped off, and waste tanks empty. We kindly ask that you also return the fuel and propane tank full and waste tanks empty, unless you would like us to take care of this for you for a fee. No worries about filling the water tank – we will do that for you.
What are the pick up times and return times?
Pick up and return times are by reservation only. The standard pick up time is at 2:00 pm and the standard return time is at 11:00 am. However there are some days that we have multiple pick ups and returns and may need to adjust the time (can set with you at the time of the booking), to accommodate for other reservations that are already booked. If you would like a late return (after 1:00 pm), please book this ahead of time for an additional $175 fee, but keep in mind that the vehicle still needs to be returned at least 90 minutes before sunset to allow time for return inspection.
Are my valuables covered under the rental insurance policy?
No. No personal items are covered under Outdoorsy Insurance Group/Wheelbase insurance or Salt Lake Luxury RV Rental’s insurance policy. Salt Lake Luxury RV Rental is not liable for any personal belongings while you are renting the RV. Salt Lake Luxury RV Rental recommends you secure your valuables or do not bring them along.
Do you require a deposit at the time of booking?
Yes. A valid credit or debit card is required to cover 50% of the total booking price.
How much is the security deposit, when is it charged, and when is it released?
2 days before pick-up, you will need to secure the rental with a $1500 security deposit on a credit card. Security deposits will be charged 2 days prior to departure and are refunded within 14 business days of return on the same credit card used pending any damages to the rental. If opting to rent the E-bikes, there is an additional USD $1000 refundable security deposit per bike due at time of departure. The security deposit must be paid by credit card in the primary renter’s name.
Are there any other fees associated with the RV rental?
All RV rentals have a preparation fee, tax, and a processing fee. The prep fee is $245 and covers a handful of things for the preparation of the rental. This includes restocking cleaning supplies, paper towels, toilet paper, DEF fluid, routine cleaning, washing linens, and filling the fresh water tank. It also covers for the time for the walk through and orientation as well as the return inspection.
What is the cancellation policy?
If the booking is greater than 7 days away, the reservation deposit is fully refundable if cancelled within 48 hours of the initial booking request. If 48 hours has passed since the time of booking, and the renter requests to cancel, the renter is responsible for 50% of the booking total if cancelled up to 7 days prior to pickup, then 100% for the remaining days. If the booking is less than 7 days away, the booking is non-refundable.
Do you allow travel to Burning Man, Element 11, or other festivals?
Absolutely not. The playa dust is very damaging, and if the vehicle is found to have travelled to Burning Man or similar festival, there is a minimum of a $40,000 fee, in addition to any damages incurred, including full replacement of the vehicle.
Can I tow something behind my RV?
No. Towing is not permitted.
Do you offer one way rentals?
Possibly – one way rentals will be approved on a case by case basis, depending on availability. Extra fees to cover time and transportation will be assessed based on distance to return to Salt Lake City. Feel free to ask for a quote!
Can I park my vehicle at the pickup location?
Yes. However any loss or damage to your vehicle is not the responsibility of Salt Lake Luxury RV rentals. There is a release of liability you need to sign to do this.
Does everyone need a seatbelt? Does my infant or child need a car seat?

Unfortunately, no. As much as we love our animal companions as well, we do not allow pets in our RVs so that all of our renters have the confidence they will not be exposed to animal dander and allergens in the RV.
What is the minimum number of night that we can rent?
We require a 5 night minimum on all RVs. If this is a last minute rental (rental will occur in less than 7 days after booking), we will allow for a minimum 4 night rental. Some exceptions apply.
How far are you from the airport?
Salt Lake Luxury RV Rentals is located in Holladay, Utah, approximately 19 miles (25-30 minute drive) from Salt Lake City International Airport.
Do you pick up from or return to the airport?
Yes! We do offer airport pick up and drop off, depending on availability. We offer this for an add-on fee of $250 each way. However please be aware that Uber or Lyft may be much less expensive (typically around $35-50 each way).

Do I have to purchase insurance?
Yes, we partner with Outdoorsy Insurance Group/Wheelbase insurance. There are 3 different levels of coverage that are offered. The renter is responsible for the deductible which is $1500 per event (hence the $1500 security deposit per rental). Prices are subject to change.
I have never driven a RV before, do you provide instruction?
Yes! This is included in EVERY rental, even if you have rented or driven a RV previously. We will show you all the different features of the RV and how to operate the coach, leveling systems (if included), inverter, water, power, and sewer connections. Additionally we will do a test drive with you to make sure that you are able to operate the RV safely. We will go over many of the common concerns experienced while driving a RV.
Do I need to hook up the RV to power, water, and sewer for everything to work?
No! All of our RVs are “self contained,” meaning everything will work without being connected to power or water. Each RV has its own on-board water tank, batteries, generator and holding tanks. Being self contained, you do run the risk of running out of water and power depending on your usage. This is uncommon, especially if you fill the holding tank every 2-3 days and typically power is regenerated by driving the vehicle or running the generator. This being said, most class C RV Motorhomes are designed to get you between powered locations, with plans to camp at a campground with full hook-ups. Specifically, the batteries will power the refrigerator, interior lights, and water pump while driving or if not hooked up, however the AC, microwave, coffee maker, tea kettle, and toaster require the generator or to be hooked up in to campsite power.
What are the different type of RV rentals that you offer?
Class B
Class “B” motorhomes are van conversions. Our Mercedes Winnebago Era is on a 24′ chassis, same as our class C Mercedes RVs. However, the class B is a little easier to maneuver as it is not as wide a as the class Cs, so many people will choose to rent this one if they are planning to make several different or frequent stops. Our Era only sleeps 3-4 (2 in the main bed, one on the sofa pull out, and can add-on the Luno front cab mattress for a 4th small person). You recognize a Class B because it looks like a large van or delivery van with a roof AC.
Class C
The class “C” motorhome is the workhorse of the RV rental business, comprising a vast majority of motorhome rentals. The class “C” models are generally designed for families and quite often offer more sleeping capacity than class “A” motor homes. They have driver / passenger side doors for easy access to the cockpit. They are easier to maneuver and have decent mpg. Our entire fleet is comprised of Mercedes RVs with diesel engines which gives much better fuel economy than gas engines. Our fleet of Cs also all have full wall, extended depth slides to significantly increase your living space while you are parked. You recognize a Class C RV because of its cab-over design.
Is there a refund for an early return?
No, when you reserve one of our RVs, those dates are blocked off exclusively for your trip and unavailable for other guests. Because of this, we’re unable to issue refunds for unused nights if you decide to return early.
Are there late fees for returning the vehicle late?
Yes, our standard return time is at 11:00 am. If there is availability, you can return up to 1:00 pm without charge, to be requested at the time of booking. However if you need to return after 1:00 pm, we do offer a late return fee of $175, also to be confirmed at the time of booking. Please keep in mind the RV still would need to be retuned at least 90 minutes before sunset to allow time for the return inspection. If you are returning late without prior notification or agreement, there is a $100 per hour for the first hour and $70 per hour for every additional hour or part there of late fee for every hour that you are late after the agreed return time.
What happens if I damage the RV or something inside?
First and foremost, please make sure you are safe and in or able to get to a safe location. Once safe and any medical needs are attended to, please let us know what was damaged. Outdoorsy Insurance Group/Wheelbase Insurance may cover any external damages you might encounter. If any other person or property is involved, you are required to get a police report.
Interior damages are not covered under any insurance policy at this time. These types of damages will be deducted from your security deposit, or you may be billed for additional charges, since insurance does not cover interior incidentals. We do offer an interior protection package, which can reimburse you directly for specific charges deducted from your security deposit, up to a maximum of $1500.
What happens if I break down?
While we regularly service our vehicles and keep them in excellent condition, we understand things happen. Please make sure you are in a safe location, and contact Salt Lake Luxury RV Rentals immediately. You are not authorized to perform any work on the RV rental. Depending on what is wrong Salt Lake Luxury RV will do our very best to get you back on the road. If it is no fault of your own or neglect and is just an RV issue we will cover the repairs. If it is determined that you, the renter is at fault, you will cover the repairs. If the break down is no fault of your own, and Salt Lake Luxury RV Rental cannot get you back on the road, you will be refunded the difference for your remaining trip. We do not cover any hotels or car rentals.
Do I have to clean the RV?
Yes, we do require that you clean the interior of the RV, and return this in the condition that you received it. Please make sure the bathroom – shower, toilet, and sinks are cleaned and the cabinets and countertops are wiped down. Please clean the kitchen as well – clean the sink, stove, microwave, and wipe down the inside and exterior of the cabinets and and refrigerator and freezer. Please make sure all silverware, utensils, and dishes are clean. Please also wipe down the other exterior and interior cabinets, wipe the table, and sweep the floor. Please wipe down the dinette cushions and front seats with water ONLY – do NOT use any chemicals on the cushions on the dinette or driver and passenger seats and this will cause the material to crack and peel. Please also make sure the grey and black tanks are dumped and fully flushed. You do NOT need to wash the linens or the exterior of the RV. If the RV is returned and has not been cleaned, there is a $60 per hour cleaning fee which will be assessed upon return should the unit be unclean.
Can I use the awning?
No. We have had too many problems in the past with them and due to the costs associated, we do not allow them to be used. So sorry!
Is smoking allowed in the RV?
No! Never does Salt Lake Luxury RV Rentals allow smoking in any of our RV rentals. There is a fee that will be charged if there is any evidence of smoking inside one of the RV rentals.
What happens if I get pulled over?
You are responsible for any and all citations while using the RV rental. The insurance card and registration is in each RV for your convenience. Please let us know if this happens to make sure the citation doesn’t get put on Salt Lake Luxury RV Rentals.
What type of fuel do I use for the RV?
All our vehicles are diesel vehicles. If you put gasoline in the tank, you will be charged for any engine damages.
Where can I park / stay at night if I haven’t reached my destination?
Many (though not all) 24 hour Wal-Mart Supercenters, Casinos and Rest Stops are the most common places to stay. Always let the manager know that you will be there for the night and make sure you have approval for this. Always make sure you are parked in a safe environment and please pay attention to any posted signage.
When do the seasons start and end? When do your prices change?
We have our standard pricing from March 15 – November 9.
We offer winter discount pricing from November 10 – March 14.
Until your reservation is confirmed, prices are always subject to change. Please note that our vehicles will likely be winterized from November 1 through mid to end of March, weather dependent.
Can I rent a RV in the winter?
Yes! Some guests have said their favorite adventures are in the winter. However please note that all our RVs are likely winterized from November 1 through mid to end of March, weather dependent. This means that if the vehicle is winterized, there is no water “on board” for you to use the toilet, sink, or shower. We would recommend staying at a campground during the winter so that you can use the campground restroom and showers. You can either use disposable dishes and silverware, or use the campground facilities to wash your dishes. The furnace runs off of propane, and keeps the RV very warm even in very cold weather. The stove also runs off of propane and the refrigerator runs off the batteries/propane depending on the model.
Do I need to be present at the time of pick up, or can I send a friend or family member in my place?
We do require that the person who is listed on the reservation be present at pick up. If there is anyone else who will be operating/driving the RV, they will also need to be present to go over all the operational and safety instructions.
Can a child or booster seat be fitted to the vehicle?
Yes, all of our class C RVs are equipped with one tether anchor for a child seat. All other seats are equipped with a lap belt only. Our Mercedes Winebago Era (class B) has a sideways facing seat in the rear, and does not accommodate a child seat.
Are there any restrictions while driving during the hot summer months?
Travel in summer months and/or in extreme temperatures can strain motorhome systems such as roof and dash air conditioners, generator and refrigerator. We maintain our motorhome fleet to accommodate all weather conditions; however, clients should be made aware that performance of motorhome systems under extreme conditions cannot be guaranteed. Roof A/C units will only cool the interior of the motor home up to a maximum of 20 degrees cooler than the outside temperature.
Can I dewinterize the RV if I am traveling someplace warm?
Yes! The renter can pay a fee to have the vehicle de-winterized once you have completed travel to a warmer climate and will need to have the vehicle re-winterized prior to returning back to below freezing temperatures (may not be available if local weather conditions are too severe). For example, you can pick up the RV in Utah in the winter, drive down to southern Arizona or California and have the vehicle de-winterized at your destination. Then, prior to leaving Arizona/California, you can take the vehicle to be re-winterized. Winterization of the motorhome’s water system is required in below-freezing temperatures to prevent damages to the water pump, water tank, water lines, water filter, water heater and holding tanks. Damages to the plumbing system due to the lack of winterization are the renter’s liability. Please contact us prior to booking for a custom quote. Renters are not allowed to de-winterize the vehicle without Salt Lake Luxury RV Rentals explicit approval.
What documents do I need to bring?
(1) A current driver’s license. The license must not expire during the rental period.
Any additional drivers to be added on the contract must have their current driver’s license as well and must be present at pickup. Temporary licenses are not acceptable. No special license is required to drive our motorhomes, but a translation of your non-English license is required in addition to the original license.
(2) A major credit card with sufficient available credit to cover the deposit, as well as any open balances.
How do I pay for Toll fees?
Tolls costs and payment methods vary throughout the country, some accept cash and/or credit and some toll-roads only accept charges made through prepaid accounts. We recommend that you research your travel plans in advance and prepare to pay for tolls based on the individual toll-plaza requirements.
If a toll bill is received by Salt Lake Luxury RV Rentals that occurred during your rental period and was not paid, you will be billed for the toll amount, any additional associated toll fees.
How can I make sure I get my full deposit back?
Please follow the rental rules. Refill diesel and propane tanks, empty waste tanks, clean the RV, and return it on time and undamaged. You are also welcome to take photos during pickup and return to document its condition.
Is 24/7 roadside assistance included?
Yes, depending on which insurance policy you choose. The “Essential” and “Piece of Mind” insurance packages do include roadside assistance. This covers common travel issues like flat tires, battery jumps, and mechanical help. Unfortunately the “Basic” package does NOT include roadside assistance, and we do NOT recommend that renters purchase this option.
Do you recommend Starlink for Yellowstone or other remote areas?
Yes, most of Yellowstone and parts of Grand Teton National Park, as well as several remote areas in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana and surrounding states that our renters travel to, do not have cell phone service. We take the stress out of travel by giving the option to “add-on” one of our Starlink Mini kits with unlimited data for $35 / night. While you may be looking to “disconnect” while out exploring, having availability to make phone calls and use the internet is highly recommended for those traveling to Yellowstone or other remote areas, and is helpful to have in case of an emergency.
